1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

You are here

Take the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge!

Why should my child participate?
Reading to your child is one of the most powerful ways to boost his or her brain power.
The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books helps your child learn pre-reading skills such as understanding the sounds letters make, developing vocabulary, and building background knowledge - all important skills that help prepare your child for learning to read and entering kindergarten.

How can we get started?
1. Register for this program online. If you have already registered in person at the library, continue to fill in your reading logs. Download logs here:  https://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/resources/

2. Each time you read with your child, record the book in your log.  Books may be read and recorded more than once. You can also count the books your child hears in storytime, in daycare or preschool.

3. Bring your log(s) to the library.  Your child will receive a sticker for each 100-book milestone and a sheet on which to place the stickers.
